Living with diabetes can often seem like a daunting task. What is it? How will it affect my life? We can answer all your questions (and more!) at our Diabetes Education Classes. Please see the Class Schedule in the menu to the left and more info below.

SESSIONS INCLUDE:

1 ASSESSMENT PAPER WORK
Health history, diabetes knowledge assessment, diabetes attitude survey, blood glucose monitoring, and initial interview with the Diabetes Educator and Dietitian.

2 UNDERSTANDING DIABETES
What is diabetes? Diabetes Myths, Types of diabetes, Types of Diabetes Treatments, Feeling about diabetes, High and low blood sugar, Setting Goals

3 DIABETES DIET MANAGEMENT
The Food Pyramid, Carb Counting, & Meal Planning, Basic food groups, Weight control, Reading food labels, Learning about carbohydrates, Exercise & food adjustments, Dining Out

4 MEDICATIONS, MONITORING, & DIABETES SELF CARE
Oral diabetes medications, Use of insulin, Responsibilities of diabetes self-care, Using Blood sugar testing results, Starting to Exercise

5 DIABETES COMPLICATIONS
Short & Long-Term Complications, Sexuality, Pregnancy

6 PUTTING THE PIECES TOGETHER
Stress Control, Making Changes, Vacations, Sick Days, Practice Scenarios

Class fees will be billed to your health insurance plan. Medicare and other health insurers usually cover 80% of the program costs.
