At Risk for Diabetes

More than a third of Americans have metabolic syndrome, which can lead to type 2 diabetes, according to the American Heart Association. You could be at risk for metabolic syndrome, also called insulin resistance syndrome, if you have three or more of these symptoms: high blood pressure, high cholesterol, low levels of HDL (good) cholesterol, high triglyceride levels or a waist circumference larger than 35 inches if you are a woman or 40 inches if you are a man.
